Hey, I’m Dee, and at 22 I seem to be the old lady of the group. I’ve crammed a lot of life experience into these last few years, which I guess is why I’m the Last Word’s resident songwriter. I play bass too. And I play it damn well. Say what you like about me being wasted on stage, but the day I play a wrong note that sounds worse than the right note is the day I leave the band.
I’m not really into the fame and fortune bullshit. If it comes, it comes. But for me I just love being in a band. I love the life. This band’s become like a family to me, which I guess is why I can become a little heated when it looks like certain people are going to fuck it up. I guess the AC/DC song
Ain’t No Fun (Waiting Around to be a Millionaire) better sums up my feelings on being in a band.
One of the best things about this band is finding a sister in Des. A sister with benefits, which can’t be bad. There’s nothing I like better than staying up all night with her trying out my la-*test*-('") lyrics or riff. And for those who knock on our door asking us to keep it down at 4am - you’re in a fucking rock band - deal with it!
So, yeah, previous bands I’ve been in our pretty varied. I formed my first band in high school, the all-girl punk trio Toxic Shock Syndrome. But the other girls wanted to go to college, get jobs and have families, so I just drifted from one band to another. Yes, I was in the emocore band Dead Birthday Clown for a while, and the last band I was in was the goth group Hex Addiction, but I’d rather not talk about that.
You’ve probably heard me playing bass or guitar without realising it. For the last few years I’ve been concentrating on developing as a musician. To pay the bills, I worked as a session musician. I guess the stuff you would have heard was on the Gothic Overtone’s last album. That was a killer album, it would've been with or without me, and I hope to work with the guys and Suzi again.
Oh yeah, and for the record, Lance is a jerk.
